I first tried mindfulness when a friend talked me into going along to a meditation evening in London in 2010. Despite my sceptical nature, I began to experience some surprising and encouraging benefits and so I started to practise regularly. As my own meditation practice and interest grew, I decided to study meditation academically in the form of a research PhD, which I am conducting at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London on kindness and compassion.
Having established a daily practice, and coming from a background of training for the charity Citizens Advice, I decided to combine my interest in meditation with my work and train to teach mindfulness. In 2014 I trained to teach mindfulness-based courses to adults with Bangor University’s Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, and continue to be supervised through Bangor University. I have also trained in the Mindfulness in Schools Project’s wonderful .b and Paws b mindfulness curricula for children, the .b Foundations programme for teachers, school staff and parents, the Finding Peace in a Frantic World course for adults, and the brilliant new course Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living.
Currently I am teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and .b Foundations to adults and have run many courses within the school setting and within Local Authorities. I have recently been taken on as a teacher-trainer for .b Foundations by Mindfulness in Schools Project, which means I will be training other mindfulness teachers to teach .b Foundations to school staff. I also have experience in writing and voicing mindfulness audio guidance for organisations.
I teach within a wide radius, having previously taught in London, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
I adhere to the UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teachers Good Practice Guidelines and am registered with the DBS Update Service. I am listed on the UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisations Listing, a regulated directory of teachers who meet the UK Good Practice Guidance for Mindfulness-Based Teachers, and on the Mindfulness-Based Compassionate Living Teachers Register.
